Detecting ID Theft
How to Recover
Identity theft and other types of fraud are growing at epic proportions around the world. We have posted some information taken directly from the FTC in the pages to the left to help you understand, protect yourself from, and recover from identity theft and defrauding. Identity theft by its very nature is an anonymous crime and is very difficult to track. Due to its anonymity and shear volume of incidents our law enforcement agencies are overburdened with ID theft and internet crime. While most victims of ID theft are eventually made whole again it takes time (it can take a lot of time) to restore your good name, depending of course on the severity of the crime. Below are a few quick tips to always follow that lend themselves to your banking relationship.
Medina Banking Company will never
call, mail, email, or contact you in any other way, directly or especially through a third party, to ask for verification of anything. We already have your information. We may ask for part of a sensitive number to verify we are talking to you, are but
only if you call us
the internet never
enter sensitive information into a screen that is not
secure, look for https:// in the address bar (like at the top of this page).

go to sites by typing them directly into your address bar if you are going to make a purchase.
Debit Cards do carry the same insurance as Credit Cards, however, your cash is dispersed immediately when a debit card is used. Fraudulent transactions on a Debit Card will place you in a negative cash position while Medina Banking Company, Visa, Shazam, and/or law enforcement conducts the investigation and figures out who (if anyone) repays.
Credit cards are a better option for online purchases. If you are going to use a Debit Card online make absolutely sure you know who you are dealing with. If you are going to use a debit card online the best way is through a reputable seller's website (Best Buy, Macy's, etc.) or with the help of a
payment vendor like PayPal.
